Pupil Wellbeing

myHappymind

At Potley Hill Primary School, we use a pastoral support program called myHappymind which is based around helping children to understand how their brain works whilst supporting them in developing positive skills and habits to be their very best selves! It is delivered in by class teachers through a series of interactive lessons and then the children apply these learnings throughout the day.

To further embed this learning, myHappymind has developed a Parent App which supports parents with understanding what your child is learning, activities for you to do together at home and also a Kids Zone featuring myHappymind Games plus much more!

To access these materials just go to https://myhappymind.org/parent-resources to create your free account. You will need to enter your name, email, and authentication code (116059).

We are also proud to announce that we are a myHappymind Bronze Accredited school! This means that as a school we consider the mental health and wellbeing of our children as one of our top priorities. We have created a whole school culture that helps build our children's resilience, confidence and self esteem as well as teaching them how to self regulate in those stressful times. This Accreditation badge has been awarded thanks to all the effort our staff, children, governors and parents have put in to bring the lessons of myHappymind to life all around our school!

Nurture Groups

Our Nurture Groups are run by Mrs Wetherill and are an inclusive intervention that offers children a range of opportunities to engage with other children in a safe environment and to share some nurturing experiences, giving them the social and emotional skills to do well at school and with their peers. They can develop their resilience and their capacity to deal more confidently with everyday activities, both at school and in their home life, and build firm friendships which they can maintain. Socially, they develop confidence, become responsive to others, learn self-respect and take pride in behaving and achieving in school.

Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)

Mrs Horton is our ELSA, (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), and in this role she works with children on a 1:1 basis. ELSAs are trained and regularly supervised by the Educational Psychologists in the Local education authority. An ELSA is a warm and caring person who wants to help your child feel happy in school and to reach their potential educationally. Their aim is to remove the barriers to learning and to have happy children in school and at home.

Both ELSA sessions and Nurture Groups take place on our converted 'double decker bus' which acts as our 'Nurture Nook.'
