Uniform Policy

All pupils attending Potley Hill Primary School are expected to wear the full school uniform detailed below. We have a reputation of having a very smart appearance and we take great pride in this. Pupils should be clean and smart at all times and we seek parental support in the maintenance of such an appearance.

We have reviewed this policy in line with DFE guidance (September 2013), ensuring parents have the opportunity to source uniform cheaply from more than one source.

Plain navy fleece* or hoodie*

Black plimsolls or trainers with velcro for outdoor activities for the infants

Bags

Across the school, children can use a navy bookbag with strap*.

In Key Stage 2, children are also able to use navy backbags*, available from Brenda’s. Other bags will not be permitted – this is to avoid the use of over-sized bags (which cannot be stored safely in school) and fashion bags.

Coloured PE bags (linked to House Teams) with the Potley Hill motif are encouraged.

Coats

There are no designated types of coat that must be worn. However, fleeces and reversible coats with the Potley Hill motif* are available from our stockists.

Jewellery

Jewellery may only be worn for medical/religious reasons.

We do allow one pair of small stud earrings to be worn but these must be removed for PE and games. The school will not accept responsibility for any accidents caused by wearing of earrings and other jewellery on the school premises.

No nail varnish or make-up may be worn to school.

Hairstyles

In addition to the correct uniform, we expect a smart appearance from all our pupils including hairstyles. The following are NOT acceptable: braided hair with beads, coloured decorations, extreme hairstyles, coloured hair or designs shaved into the hair (for example, at grade 0 or 1).

All children with shoulder length hair or longer must have it tied up.

Hair accessories (ties and clips) must be plain, and blue or white.  Blue gingham (checked) scrunchies may be worn by the girls with the summer uniform.

Fashion and availability of items from the high street change rapidly and therefore it is not possible to cater for every possibility within this policy.  Therefore the school reserve the right to decide what is or is not allowed, both in uniform and general appearance, in cases not catered for by specific rules.

It would be advisable, when in doubt, for parents to contact the school before spending money on items which may not comply with our uniform policy.

In cases of financial difficulty we should be pleased to help. Please contact Mrs Clarke.
